Handmade Soaps , Shaving and Shampoo Bars

Handmade Soaps , Shaving and Shampoo Bars
HANDMADE SOAPS, SHAVING and SHAMPOO BARS 4 oz.

I began making soaps because I cannot tolerate the harsh chemicals, preservatives, fillers and other "unnatural" stuff in commercial soaps. My soaps contain none of these abrasive cleansers and only a modicum of fragrance oils - they're just pure, natural bars. The bars lather wonderfully and are long-lasting with just a hint of fragrance. Indulge yourself!

To ensure the long life or your handmade soap, it needs to be kept away from running water (out of the way of the shower stream) and is also needs to dry in between uses - not sit in a puddle of mushy soap-water. To facilitate that, a soapdish works wonderfully.

ABOUT THE SHAMPOO BARS: FAQ

Do they lather?

Yes! And we're talking BIG lather. The bars have lots of lather, more so than commercial liquid shampoos, in our experience.

How do you use them?

Couldn't be simpler - just rub the bar on your scalp in several places to disperse some of the shampoo, then set the bar down and just begin scrubbing with your fingertips. If you have thinner hair, you can just rub the bar between your hands to work up some lather, and then rub your hands directly unto your head.

Why would I want a shampoo bar?

Well first of all, it's an all-natural product. Commercial liquid shampoos are NOT. Here's the complete ingredient list on the rosemary shampoo bar: saponified oils of olive, castor, coconut, palm kernel, jojoba, rosemary tea, pure essential oils. Now, go to your shower and read the label on your shampoo. UGH. Tons of stuff you can't even pronounce, let alone identify. The "natural" ones generally add in herbal extracts, and that's all - they rarely leave out the icky stuff in lieu of the natural goodies. I say:

"Commercial soaps contain "conditioners" which also coat the hair weighing it down. When that coating is removed you get more body in your hair"

Commercial shampoos also contain (very often) petrochemical/petroleum products which are 1) a non-renewable resource, and 2) cause allergic reactions in may people, and 3) are actually drying to your hair, skin and scalp.

It is also a "HEAD TO TOE" bar - meaning it is just fine as an all-over body bar too. It's great for traveling; no need to tote tons of little bottles of soap, shampoo and conditioner, just one bar will do it all.

What else do you I need to know?

Shampoo bars do not lather as well in hard water, so keep that in mind.

I have this warning and advice for shampoo bar newbies:

"Tell people that they need to give the shampoo bars about a week to get the old residues [from commercial shampoos] off. In that week, they could have some pretty funky looking hair (Funky Hair Syndrome) until the gunk gets removed. Try and encourage them to use a vinegar rinse that first week. Let it remain on the hair a while then rinse thoroughly."

Can I use them if I have color-treated hair?

You'll want to use your own judgment on this. We've never had a customer report problems using a shampoo bar with their color treated hair. We do recommend the Rosemary Nettle to repair any damage that the color treatment may have done, or the Chamomile to help keep the color if you're an "unnatural" blonde!
